The first Europeans to discover the bay area, the Portola party, did so from here in1760. They had hiked up from around Montara beach - we cut up from Sneath lane which is a lot easier :)

Hike up to Sweeney Ridge
Sweeney Ridge lies between the Bay and the ocean and is the site where the Portola party discovered the bay.
